Logos Hope!

A couple of weeks ago the Logos Hope ship pulled into Galle harbor and we had the opportunity to visit several times before they left for India. If you're not familiar with this ministry, it's a floating bookstore with a crew of 400 christian 20 - 30 year olds. They dock in foreign ports for 2-3 weeks and open the ship up to the community. The books are sold at reasonable prices for the locals to afford. There are over 5000 book titles, all good family reading for all ages.

We took 15 young girls from the village on a field trip to the ship and they were excited to see and meet some many of the crew from all over the world. We were able to arrange a private tour of the ship for them to see and meet several of the crew. Several got addresses and now are writing their new pen pals from France, Japan, and Ireland. They kept a list of all the countries of crew members they met and looked them up on the globe when we got home. It was a real life learning experience and an event that they are still talking about even as I write. We ended the tour by spending time in the bookstore, where they were able to purchase a book or two, and enjoy the ice cream parlor before heading home!
